Synopsis

A naïve young Texan arrives at the threshold of his dream—a life in the
wilderness—only to find himself charged for a murder he did not commit, cornered
by a crooked county attorney, and out of options.

For years, Cody Brandon has wanted his own cattle ranch in the mountain
grasslands of Canada. Armed with a fresh degree in Ag Business from Texas A&M
University, he heads north to British Columbia to take a promised job as ranch manager, a step toward
his ultimate goal.

He perseveres through multiple difficulties, falls in love with a beautiful schoolteacher, and has just
secured a dream job on a remote mountain ranch, when the bottom falls out of his world: he learns he’s
been framed for murder in Idaho.

He returns to Coeur d’Alene, where he learns how he was framed, and discovers the county attorney is
lying in order to milk him for incriminating evidence. Cody can’t trust the system. Like David from Saul,
he opts to flee. He has a few days to find the actual killer and exonerate himself, or go to prison and
watch his ranch dream die.

Synopsis

When Texas cowboy Cody Brandon collides—literally—with schoolteacher Julie Stewart at a remote Canadian village store, he knows he’s found the woman he’s been waiting for. She’s beautiful, courageous, and shares his faith. But convincing her protective father that a wandering ranch hand with a troubled past is worthy of his daughter? That’s a mountain even higher than the rugged peaks surrounding them.

Julie never expected to fall in love in the wilderness. Teaching in a one-room school hundreds of miles from civilization was supposed to be an adventure, not the beginning of forever. But Cody’s integrity, kindness, and unwavering faith captures her heart. Just as their future together seems possible, a devastating accident leaves Julie clinging to life—and strips away every memory of the man she loves. Cody’s voice, his face, their tender moments together … all gone.

Forbidden from seeing her by her father, Cody refuses to give up. He writes letters she may never remember reading. He prays for a miracle he may never witness. But in the vast wilderness of British Columbia, where grizzlies roam and wolves howl, some loves are worth fighting for—even when the woman you’d die for doesn’t remember your name. Can faith, patience, and one powerful letter change everything?

Author

Gary Brumbelow immigrated to Canada in 1978 and spent two years in the
Chilcotin/Shuswap region of British Columbia, the setting for Someplace North,
Someplace Wild and, in part, Someplace North, Someone Fair.

Gary worked as a missionary in Canada’s First Nations communities before serving as a pastor for 14 years.

He co-wrote and/or edited several books, mostly recently Wisdom:The Way to Human Flourishing and Mountain Ranch at the End of the Road: Horses, Cows, Guns and Grizzlies in the Canadian Wilderness.

Endorsements

Writing like an evangelical Louis L ‘Amour, Gary Brumbelow has an uncanny ability–by engaging our senses and implanting us into the middle of the story–to lead us to evaluate our own lives. What might I have done trapped in a similar circumstance! It smacks of my favorite of Jesus’ parables. Stu Weber, Pastor/Author

I’m impressed with Gary’s debut novel and proud of him. His story has all the twists and turns you want in a yarn that just might keep you up all night. Enjoy and be looking for more from him! Jerry Jenkins, Writer of the Left Behind series and The Chosen novels.
